Established in Oct 2010, Asian Academy for Peace Research and Development (in short Asian Peace Academy) is a Kathmandu based not for profit organization that focuses on peacebuilding and conflict transformation, Gender and social inclusion, community development and governance. It is registered to the government of Nepal under the Company Registration Act 2006 sub section (1) of section 5, With vision and mission of contributing to peaceful, just and prosperous society in the country. Asian Academy works with women networks and peacebuilding organisations in Kathmandu and  various districts of Nepal to identify gender issues and local peacebuilding needs and  supports relevant stakeholders and institutions for building local capacities that are essential to address women's issues, build peace and  foster non- violent means. Recognising the fact that building capacities is a key to achieving its vision and mission, Asian Academy engages in building capacities of local peace and development actors, particularly youth, women, marginalised groups, political actors, civil society organisations and local government actors.

The organisation is govern by a eleven members board of directors, all of them have distinguished and accomplished career history in terms of contributing to social wellbeing in the country. The day to day function of the organization is managed by a full-time executive director who directly reports to the board. An advisory committee which is consisted of national and international experts in the field of peacebuilding and development provide necessary advice to the executive board, particularly in developing organisational strategy and plans to translate the strategies into action.
